    TROOP 5280 JOIN NIGHT

Please spread the news. Scouts BSA Troop 5280 is holding a Join Night to recruit boys 10½ years old up through 17 with special needs into Scouting. In addition, we are inviting girls of the same age group to attend, as we want to start a Scouts BSA Troop for girls. Also, we are inviting girls and boys age 5 to 10½ to attend, as we want to start a Cub Scout Pack for the younger boys and girls with special needs. Siblings of special needs students are encouraged to join as well.

What: Join Night into the Scouting Program for Girl and Boy Students with

Special Needs, and their siblings, Ages 5-17

    When: Tuesday November 12 2019, 7:00 p.m.

Where: Saint Peter Lutheran Church, 9300 E Belleview Ave, Greenwood Village

    A Cub Scout Pack:

For girls and boys in the age range of 5 to 10½. The pack follows the Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout program and Cubs advance through their ranks by “Doing Their Best” with the rank requirements.

Scouts BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts):

Now for boys and girls in the age range of 10½ through 17. However, Boy Scouts of America will consider a Scout with developmental disabilities or with a severe physical challenge to join or remain a Scout BSA past 17 years of age. In Scouts BSA, the Scout is expected to complete all requirements for rank advancements and merit badges. However, if the Scout with special needs has a barrier to completing some requirements due to a disability, alternate requirements will be explored as well as effective and individualized accommodations to the requirements. So, each Scout in our troop has an individually designed plan to successfully achieve rank advancements and completion of merit badges. More importantly, it is our goal that each Scout has a successful and positive Scouting experience through having “fun with a purpose”, the purpose being learning, leadership, and building friendships and character.

A Scouts BSA troop is by gender. Each troop is made up of exclusively boys or girls, however, the troops can and are encouraged to hold troop meetings and outings together. Each troop will have its own separate Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster, with a woman 21 years or older being required for one of these positions for the girls’ troop.

The Scoutmaster for Troop 5280 is Juleon Duran, email gjkduran@aol.com, phone number 303- 284-8802. Troop 5280 meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month at Saint Peter Lutheran Church, 9300 East Belleview Avenue, Greenwood Village, Building entrance and parking is on the south side. Meeting time is 6:30 pm to 8 pm.
