The John and Marjorie Madden Merit Scholarship

The John and Marjorie Madden Merit Scholarship was established by John and Marjorie Madden to ensure the highest quality and continuity of staff members for the Denver Area Council camps. The scholarship is awarded annually to selected Boy Scouts of America registered members of camp staff who meet all the requirements. Merit-based consideration is given for camp service, community involvement, demonstrated academic ability, creativity of service, leadership opportunities and personal initiative.

Applicants must be employed as a Denver Area Council camp staff member (Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch or Tahosa High Adventure Base) for at least two (2) summers, one of which must be the summer immediately preceding application. Scholars are required to work each summer during their scholarship. Both applicants and Scholars must have a semester Grade Point Average of 2.85 or greater and Scholars are required to perform 20 hours of community service outside of the Boy Scouts of America.

How to Apply

To apply for the John and Marjorie Madden Merit Scholarship, complete the Application Packet submit it to the Denver Area Council, Madden Committee by Friday, November 2, 2018 at 5:00 pm. Interviews for applicants that meet all the requirements will be held on Friday, January 4 , 2019.

2018 Qualifying Bonus Management Positions

As per the revised Guidelines and General Information that was sent out to all Scholars in October, there are changes in the positions that will qualify for the additional bonus of $1,000 per year. These positions will need to be applied for, are competitive in nature and are not guaranteed. These positions and bonuses are not retroactive.
