This area is designed to help orient new adult leaders into their position as well as explain the continuum of training provided by the Denver Area Council for volunteer leaders. Generally speaking, training describes the basic workings of the Scouting Program. This orientation is to help eliminate the doubts that new volunteer leaders have about their responsibilities. You will find an online training center, helpful training resources, information for youth leaders and the continuum of training for adult leaders in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venturing.
Trained leaders provide a quality Scouting program which helps keep youth interested and engaged in all that Scouting has to offer. Surveys have shown that units with 100% trained leadership are more likely to have quality programs and retain youth in their units.

This training will examine: What a Commissioner is; What a Commissioner does; and How a Commissioner does it.
You will be given information about understanding the commissioner unit service role in supporting units, you will understand the methods and steps of good unit program planning and you will be able to understand commissioner priorities and how to be an effective leader yourself.
There is a four-function concept of council and district operations -
- Membership/Relationships - to make Scouting available to all youth
- Finance - To provide adequate funds
- Program - to maintain standards and policies
- Unit Service - to serve chartered organizations through a commissioner staff
