Feature: Fountain Valley Trail

Comments: The half-mile Fountain Overlook trail affords a spectacular view of rock formations. Most wheelchairs can ride the Fountain Valley Trail with little or no difficulty during good weather conditions. Trail is not paved.Generally the trails are open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the summer and 8 a.m. to 5 in the winter.

Comments: This 6.3 mile trail runs alongside US 40. You may see wildlife, possibly a moose. Access location is for the visitor center.

Feature: Frisco-Farmers Korner Recreation Trail

Venue: Summit County Open Space and Trails Department

Suitability: Hike

Trailhead Location: Dickey Day Use Area / Trailhead, Dillon, CO

Comments: This is a paved greenway trail separated from traffic that runs from Frisco, and heads toward Breckenridge” It’s an easy segment of the Dillon Reservoir Loop.

Comments: A gentle paved trail following the Colorado River between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero over 16 miles in length. Reportedly there are plenty of resting areas, as well as picnic sites, restrooms and fishing access points but we have not verified these are accessible.

Feature: Narrow Gauge Trail

Comments: Gaining only 200+ feet in elevation, the Narrow Gauge Trail is in Pine Valley Ranch Park, a beautiful open space near the mountain community of Pine, Colorado. The trail follows the north bank of the North Fork of the South Platte River, through pine forests and open meadows. The 2-mile trail is out and back but does link to other trails in the park.” Accessible fishing docks are available along the trail.

Comments: An accessible, wide, concrete path, 1 1/2 mile total including a loop with two spurs. Access the Perkins Central Garden Trail from the main parking lot. It provides viewing of many of the prime formations in the garden.

Feature: Poudre River Trail

Venue: Poudre Trail Organization

Suitability: Hike. Fish (accessible?).

Trailhead Location: 1250 D St, Greeley, CO 80631

Comments: The Poudre River Trail tracks a 21-mile, scenic course along Cache la Poudre River between Windsor and Greeley. The paved trail is … wide with gently grades … passing through several parks and natural areas, the trail offers plenty of recreational opportunities, including wildlife watching, fishing and picnicking. The given access location is the Island Park Grove trailhead. Note there are many trailheads where you can put in—check the ACCESS link.

Feature: Saint Vrain Greenway

Venue: City of Longmont

Suitability: Hike.

Comments: The (eight mile) St. Vrain Greenway begins in Golden Ponds Park and travels east along the creek for more than half its distance. At the park, watch for the bald eagles, wood ducks, great blue herons and Canada geese that call the area home.  Check the ACCESS link for options where to put in.

Comments: This is an easy half-mile hike (one way) along South Boulder Creek. The first 300 feet are wheelchair accessible. The trail dead-ends at the base of the West Ridge.

Feature: Ten Mile Canyon National Recreation Trail

Comments: Paved off-road route through spectacular mountain scenery. The trail runs for 22 miles between the town of Frisco and Gore Creek Campground on the White River National Forest just outside of Vail.

Legend

  • Number. The numbered markers on the map correspond to numbered rows of the table. There are a few rows on the table that do not appear on the map because they fall outside the boundaries that can be displayed. Such unmatched rows are noted with ‘ (Not on Map)’.
  • Feature. The name of the feature, such as a trail, lake or campground. The associated link brings up a Google Map that shows how to reach a trailhead or otherwise gain access to that feature.
  • Venue. The name of the park or other entity that owns and manages the feature.
  • Suitability. Keywords that indicate how people with special needs can use this feature: hike, camp, fish or restroom.
  • Comments. Supplemental information about this particular feature.
  • Location. A street or GPS address that provides a point of access (such as a trailhead) for the feature. This may be one of multiple trailheads. The access locations we provide are known to Google Maps and can be used for route planning. Unfortunately in a couple of cases Google Maps doesn’t know about local roads that provide direct access to the trailhead, in which case we provide clarification in the comments.
  • Access Information. A link that provides a map or other information about how to reach and/or navigate the trail.
  • Visit the Website. A link to a homepage or other general information for that venue.

Not all these sites are officially ADA accessible, but with care you can generally navigate them using wheelchairs or walkers. Be forewarned though, this guide is meant as a point of departure only in your planning. Please investigate current conditions and verify the intended destination suits your needs and abilities. Be prepared!
